How to Take Apart a Billiards Table

How to Take Apart a Billiards Table

A billiards table or pool table must be taken apart before it can be moved. The process of moving a billiards table can be compared with relocating a grand piano. The only difference is that a billiards table can be disassembled and put together again. Taking apart a billiards table is easier than it looks. You need a few tools and a couple of friends to help.

Instructions

    1

With the socket wrench, remove the bolts on the underside of the table that attach the rails to the billiards table. Take off the rails.

    2

Loosen the screws holding the pockets in place with a screwdriver. Lift the pockets out from their place on the table.

    3

Using the staple puller, remove the staples that hold the felt or billiards tablecloth in place. If you plan to reuse the felt, take care not to damage it in the disassembling process. Roll the felt into a log. Do not fold, because it will create creases in the fabric.

    4

Take off the screws that secure the slate pieces in place. Some manufacturers use beeswax to lock the slates on the table. If yours does, scrape the beeswax off with a putty knife. A billiards table usually has three heavy slate layers. With the help of at least two people, lift the slates. Be careful with the weight of the slates while removing them away from the table.

    5

Turn the table upside down. Use a socket wrench to remove the securing bolts that attach the legs. Disassemble the legs. You may need either a Philips or flathead screwdriver depending your table. Some legs are held by screws instead of bolts.
