How to Create an Elegant Look for Banquet Style Tables

Creating an elegant table is the start of a successful event. Elegant doesn't have to be synonymous with complicated. Keeping the color scheme simple and sophisticated in the shades of black and white, an elegant look is achieved through understatement and stark contrast. Black and white are wise color choices as coordination with china or disposable serving products is a snap. Tablecloths can be rented rather than purchased, and because black is a common color reserving the tablecloths shouldn't be the problem that other colors might pose. Creating an elegant look for banquet tables is simple and affordable.

Instructions

    1

Place the black tablecloth on the table, adjusting the sides and ends so all edges hang evenly.

    2

Tear a 24-inch-long piece of aluminum foil from the foil roll and fold the foil in half length-wise.

    3

Place the foil in the center of the table, on top the tablecloth, at the halfway point (3-feet mark for a standard banquet table).

    4

Place the 12-inch pillar candle on top of the very center of the foil.

    5

Place one 10-inch pillar candle 8 inches to the left of the 12-inch pillar candle on top of the foil.

    6

Place the other 10-inch pillar candle 8 inches to the right of the 12-inch pillar candle on top of the foil.

    7

Mix the black and white/clear glass gems together in a bag or bowl and pour the glass gems around the pillar candles, completely covering the aluminum foil.

How to Change the Table on Top of a Crib

How to Change the Table on Top of a Crib

Attaching a changing table to the top of a crib provides a convenient location for changing your baby while saving you space in the nursery that would otherwise be taken up by a freestanding table. The tables are made for sturdy but temporary placement, with adjustable mounts that make removal and replacement a quick and simple process. All thats required is a hex key of the appropriate size. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Locate the two hex screws on the top of the existing changing table that runs through the sliding adjustment mounting slots.

    2

Fit the provided hex key or a key that fits from a hexadecimal set into the top of the screw. Loosen the screws enough to be able to move the mounting rail that the screws hold in place. Push the rail towards the center of the changing table and away from the rail along the edge of the crib.

    3

Unsnap the two safety straps running through the strap slots in the table and around the top two side crib rails.

    4

Pull the straps from the slots in the table and through the slats of the crib rail to remove the straps. Pull the changing table from the top of the crib.

    5

Attach the mounting rails to the base of the replacement changing table using two mounting hex screws through the mounting holes at the sides of the table and into the mounting rails. Tighten the two screws holding the stationary rail in place while leaving the two screws running through the slotted mounting holes loose enough that the rail they hold can slide back and forth beneath the slots.

    6

Remove the protective backing paper from the rubber bumpers and place a bumper on the outside surface of each of the mounting rails. This is the surface that will be against your crib rails. The bumpers prevent the changing table from damaging the crib surface.

    7

Set the changing table onto the top of the crib with the mounting rails within the crib interior. Position the stationary rail against one of the crib rails. Slide the adjustable rail against the rail on the other side of the crib. Tighten the hex screws holding the adjustable rail in position with the hex key.

    8

Run the two safety straps through the slat hole directly beneath the strap slots of the changing table, then up through the slots so that the rail of the crib is encompassed by the strap. Lock the buckle of the strap closed on top of the changing table to prevent the table from moving.

    9

Set the changing pad into the table frame over the straps to complete the replacement.

How to Dress a Banquet Table

How to Dress a Banquet Table

Whether you are hosting a small food party or a great wedding feast, the right table setup can be a tricky decision. Though dressing banquet tables isnt a daunting task, there are a few guidelines that can help make the process more straightforward. Modern banquet tables may not require any sort of covering to be visually stunning, while more plain ones will benefit from the right linens and other accents. Placement of food, utensils and decorations is another important step in turning an otherwise ordinary banquet table into a spectacular display piece. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Linens

    1

Pick a linen whose design, color and material matches the theme of the event. Black or white linens will go with almost any color scheme.

    2

Choose white linens -- preferably cotton for easy cleanup -- for a wedding or other formal event. Use linens made of materials such polyester, vinyl or plastic for outdoor and casual events.

    3

Place a table topper on before the skirt to help secure the skirt and keep items stable. Set down the main linen and make sure that each side is evenly spaced and hangs properly.

Displays

    4

Arrange foods in a logical, progressive order. Place appetizers and salads at the beginning of the table, then entrees and desserts.

    5

Use elaborate centerpieces such as sculptures to add an artistic flair to the table. Place foods on displays or inside chafers to help them stand out.

    6

Space place mats evenly around the table as needed if guests are dining at the same table. Place a chair directly in front of each place mat, and utensils on either side of it.

Table Settings

    7

Determine which type of table setting is most suitable for your event. Use a formal dinner table setting for special events such as weddings.

    8

Arrange flatware and dishes in the order in which they will be used during a meal. Leave at least 2 feet between each place setting on the table. Place all tableware 1 inch from the tables edge.

    9

Place glassware in the following order from right to left: white wine glass, red wine glass, and water glass.

How to Make Tablecloths for Banquet Tables

How to Make Tablecloths for Banquet Tables

Banquet tables are ideal for weddings and receptions. A banquet table holds more food, dishes and accessories than a standard size table. Banquet tables are usually adorned with a fancy tablecloth. Sometimes they present themselves with a lacey coverlet over the top of the tablecloth. Whatever manner you choose to decorate your banquet table, if you use the proper fabric for the occasion, your tablecloth is bound to be exquisite. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Purchase a piece of fabric from any fabric store. Linen is a good choice for a banquet tablecloth. Have the employee cut the fabric 52 inches by 110 inches. This includes a 1-inch hem on all four sides.

    2

Set up a sewing machine with thread the same color as the fabric.

    3

Lay out the fabric in a large open area. Using straight pins, create a 1-inch hem on all four sides and pin them in place.

    4

    Iron the edges flat.

    5

Sew along the outside edge, to secure the hemline, 1/2 inch in. You must make sure to keep the sewing line the same distance from the edge all the way around the perimeter so the hem looks clean and neat.

    6

Remove the pins. Wash and dry the banquet tablecloth to loosen the fabric. Iron the tablecloth. Cover the table.

How to Design a Banquet Room Layout

How to Design a Banquet Room Layout

Its relatively easy to create an impressive banquet room layout. Ordinary cafeteria-style dining tables and chairs can be dressed up to provide an elegant feel for any occasion. The placement of tables and chairs will affect how guests perceive the event. Use plenty of white tablecloths and appropriate accessories to enhance the room as well. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Clean all floor surfaces. This sets the stage for a well-dressed room and layout. Place the tables in a perfect square or rectangle. Place chairs facing inward. Guests should all face the center of the square or rectangle. If the room is unusually large, create two areas of tables in rectangular or square arrangments. Avoid lining up tables where guests must sit cafeteria-style. This creates less conversation and ability to view others in the room.

    2

Arrange dining tables so the speaker or guests of honor stand out. Simply designate one side of the table grouping as the head table. For example, you might seat a bride and groom at a section appointed as the head table. Make their seating area a focal point. Cover their individual chairs with white fabric or wrap chairs with large satin bows. Or, place special flowers on the table near them.

    3

Create a food line along one wall of the banquet room if there is no wait staff. Help guests obtain their food easily and move on to designated seating areas. Keep the drink area to the extreme left or right of the food serving line. Assign seats using place cards. Everything in the room should stay in balance, so arrange tables properly spaced from all entrances, exits and food-serving areas.

    4

Keep dining areas away from entertainment areas. Put a live band or musician at one end of the room. Fill space in the center of a table grouping with flowers or art objects. Guests should not view just a bare floor in front of them.

    5

Arrange tables in a triangular fashion if the room is small. Have guests face inward and place a band or entertainment group at one end of the room. Keep dining and conversation separate from music or dancing later on.

How to Turn a Dresser Into a Changing Table

How to Turn a Dresser Into a Changing Table

According to Consumer Reports, your baby will go through as many as 2,000 diapers in his first year. Since you'll be changing a lot of diapers, make sure that your changing area is comfortable, convenient and safe for your baby. To save space and money on extra furniture, some parents choose to turn a basic dresser into a changing table. Creating a changing table out of a dresser is an easy way to prepare for your new baby. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Choose the right size dresser. Make sure that the dresser you choose is high enough so that you won't have to bend down and strain your back. Consumer Reports recommends using a dresser that is 36 to 43 inches high. In addition, when searching for a dresser, make sure you find one that is wide enough to hold a removable changing pad and still have some room. Older babies can wiggle around, and a narrow dresser top could pose a safety hazard. Also, shorter dressers are less likely to fall forward when the baby is on them. If you're tall and decide to opt for a taller dresser, mount the dresser to the wall with furniture straps so that it doesn't fall forward.

    2

Purchase a removable changing pad. These contoured changing pads are designed to turn any area into a diaper-changing area. Make sure that you purchase a pad that is specifically designed for diaper changing. The pad should have at least two contoured sides and a restraint strap. If you need to change the baby in another area, you can simply move the pad.

    3

Gather diaper-changing materials. Dressers provide built-in storage, so take advantage of this by using the top drawer to store diapers, wipes, lotions and diaper rash ointment. In addition, if your dresser is long enough, you can keep a box of wipes or a wipe warmer on top of the dresser for easy access.

Baby Change Table Checklist

For many parents, the changing table is a convenient place to change a baby's diaper and do other baby care tasks as well. Keeping a change table stocked with several different items will ensure parents have everything they need without having to waste time looking for things or take the unsafe chance of leaving a baby unattended on the changing table while getting something out of reach.

Diapers and Wipes

The main purpose of a changing table is to have a safe place to put a baby down to change her diaper. According to BabyCenter, a newborn can go through eight to 10 diapers each day, so consider storing several days' worth of diapers at the change table, along with pins or wraps if using cloth diapers. A container of baby wipes is also crucial to clean a little one's bottom.

Spare Clothes

While parents are changing a diaper, they often discover that the diaper leaked and the baby needs clean pants. Or the little one might spit up during the change so that her shirt now looks and smells less than pretty. A baby's dresser usually is not within arms' reach, so it may be wise to store a few extra outfits at the changing table for times such as these.

Baby Health-Related Supplies

A small basket is a perfect addition to a changing table for storing some essential health products for an infant. Eventually, all babies develop a diaper rash, so have a cream to apply at the first sign of redness. Healthy Children suggests using a product with zinc oxide or petroleum jelly.

In addition, have a pair of baby fingernail clippers or scissors to keep a little one's nails trim so that she doesn't scratch herself. It's also useful to have a thermometer at the changing table to use while a baby is lying down. A bottle of baby lotion should be kept handy to apply to any dry patches on an infant's skin.

Toys and Distractions

As infants grow into mobile little beings, parents can find it a challenge to get them to lie still, even for a minute, to change a diaper. Keep a selection of small toys nearby that a baby can look at while parents take care of business. Put some colorful pictures on the wall next to the changing table to distract a baby who needs to be still. Even a small CD player that plays some soothing music on the changing table may calm a fussy baby and help get the job done.

Ideas for a Second Baby Change Table

Ideas for a Second Baby Change Table

A baby changing table can make the task of changing diapers each day less work. It allows you to keep all of your baby changing supplies, such as diapers, wipes, creams and powders, close at hand. Adding a second baby changing table in your home, in an area where you spend a lot of time, can add even more convenience. Does this Spark an idea?

Playards

Baby playards are a great alternative to adding a second traditional changing table in a well-used area of your home. Many of the newer styles of playards come with built-in changing areas that are cushioned and positioned at an ideal height for changing diapers. Not only will you have an extra changing table in your home, but you will also have a place for your baby to nap or play. Some even feature a bassinet that can be inserted for infants and cubbies that hang off of the side to hold changing supplies.

Dresser Changing Table

An inexpensive way to add a second changing table to your home is to take an appropriate-height dresser and transform it into a changing table. If it is an older dresser, it can be refinished and painted to match the room it is going in. Then, you will just need to purchase a padded changing table topper that will sit right on top of the dresser. Some are available that can be secured to the dresser and feature raised edges for the safety of your baby. You can then use the drawers in the dresser to store changing supplies and anything else you need to keep handy for your baby.

Desk

Some parents recycle a desk that they already have to create a second baby change table to keep in an area of their home where they spend a lot of time with their baby. Changing pads with raised edges can be placed on a desk top to create a convenient changing table, where you can keep everything you need for your baby handy. This can make the diaper changes you are going to make more organized.

Basket

For those who don't have the room or extra money for a second changing table in their home, they can opt for using a basket to store everything necessary for a diaper changing. This basket can be kept where it is convenient to grab when it's time for a diaper change, and it can hold diapers, wipes, ointments and a diaper changing pad. Then, when you need to change a diaper, you can place the changing pad where it is most convenient--on the floor, sofa or table--and have everything you need right in the basket.

How to Build Baby Changing Tables

If babies are synonymous with the miracle of life and love, they are also synonymous with 6 AM feeding and round the clock changing. You may realize only after the baby arrives how important it is to have a baby changing table. Most new parents buy one in a hurry when they find it difficult to manage with the regular furniture. You, however, can build one and in the process save a small fortune which you could use to buy something else for your precious bundle. Though this sounds a little difficult, it is not. Anybody who likes doing things around the house can do it, as it requires no special skills or dexterity.

Instructions

    1

Take the tape and measure the size of the table top. Have a table any size you want, but the best is something about 3.5 feet long and 2 feet wide. Cut two identical pieces of the same measurement (the size you want your table to be). For the table top you extend its length by about 6 to 8 inches. Since these can come pre-laminated, you need not worry about their finish.

    2

Have the legs pre-cut in the required size. If you prefer steel pipes, have these fitted with rubber ends. For wood, you need to sand them and smooth them to perfection before you join these to the table top. Now make your table by attaching the legs to the table top. For steel legs, you need to fill in the hole with wood and then drill nails into it. The steel rods should be at least 6 inches taller than the table, as this makes the rail for the changing station. The attachment of legs should be done at straight angles into the wood plank.

    3

Repeat the process with the other two planks to create two more shelves for your table. For best results, use the saw to create a dimple into the wood that matches the steel pipe for a snug fit and stick it with glue before driving in the nail. This reinforces the attachment and gives it additional strength.

    4

Join the protruding pipes or wood legs with steel pipes or wood rails parallel to the table. Make small rails (that resemble a cage) equidistantly for safety. Do this with wood or steel. This frame should follow exactly the parameter of the table; the protruding part should be enclosed separately. This is the place where you keep lotions and other things that you need at hand while changing the baby.

    5

Use the lower shelves to store things that you need, such as babys nappies, towels, wipes and so forth.

How to Choose a Baby Changing Table

Although you can change a babys diaper on any flat surface with a protective pad, changing tables can make diapering more convenient, since they raise the baby up to a comfortable height and provide a place to store diapering supplies. You can buy changing tables in many baby departments and stores, or you can place a changing pad on a sturdy, appropriately sized dresser or bookcase. Since many changing tables are made to match a crib, you may want to choose a changing table at the same time you choose the other nursery furniture.

Instructions

    1

Select a changing table that carries the JPMA certification seal. The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association only certifies baby products that meet their safety standards. You can find the safety requirements, and a list of changing tables that meet them, on the JPMA website.

    2

Look for a changing table that has raised sides or guard rails to help keep the changing pad in place and keep the baby safe. If you want to use a bookcase or dresser as a changing table, consider using a contoured pad with straps that you can attach firmly to the furniture.

    3

Make sure the changing table is sturdy and has a non-toxic finish, with no peeling paint. Changing tables come in a variety of colors, such as white, natural, oak and cherry, so you can choose one that matches your other nursery furniture.

    4

Make sure the height of the changing table is comfortable for you. Most parents prefer the changing table to be about waist high, so they dont have to bend over or reach up to change the baby.

    5

Select the type of storage compartments you want for the changing table. Some tables have open shelves where you can stack diapers or baskets, while others have closed drawers or cupboards. Some changing tables use a mix of both styles. While open styles can be more convenient, closed style storage systems can help keep older babies out of the supplies.

    6

Find out if the changing table comes with a changing pad, or fits standard pads. You will definitely need a pad with a removable, washable cover. If you want to use a bookcase or dresser as a changing table, make sure the top of the furniture can accommodate a standard sized changing pad.

How to Decorate for a Banquet Style Wedding Reception

How to Decorate for a Banquet Style Wedding Reception

Banquet style wedding decorations do not differ much from decorations for a sit-down wedding reception. The main difference is that you will have the additional duty of decorating the banquet tables. Decorating for a banquet style wedding reception is really up to the bride and groom and their preferences. Banquet style wedding reception decorations can be fun to pick out and assemble. The bride and groom should relax, be creative and really focus on the feel they want to create with their wedding reception.

Instructions

Preparation

    1

Decide on your wedding colors. Two or three colors that complement each other will look great. The colors you choose will correspond with your wedding party attire, your flowers and your wedding decorations, so choose carefully.

    2

Check with your reception site to see what color table linens they will provide. Most places provide very neutral colors, such as white or cream.

    3

Visit a craft store with your wedding colors. Pick out ribbon in one of your colors that is 5 to 6 inches thick. Purchase enough to provide two strips down the length of each of your banquet tables.

    4

Pick out a 1-inch-thick ribbon that is the same color as your thicker ribbon. This will be used to decorate your vase for the center piece.

    5

Select a circular, square or rectangle vase. A 3-inch diameter vase is good, but that can vary depending on your preferences. Since the vase will serve as the center piece, you will want to choose one that is taller than everything else that will be on your table. A 9- to 12-inch tall vase should work. Make sure to get enough to place one on every table.

    6

Choose either clear or colored stones that will be used to fill your vase. Get enough to fill all of your vases halfway.

    7

Purchase enough votive candles and clear votive candle holders to have four at each table.

    8

Purchase 12-inch or larger in diameter mirrors. The key is to select one that is large enough to place your vase centerpiece and four votive candles on.

Putting It All Together

    9

Cut the thin ribbon you bought into strips that are long enough to just wrap around the center of your vase so that the ends overlap by about a half an inch.

    10

Using a hot glue gun, put a dab of glue on one end of the ribbon facing out. Wrap the ribbon around the vase and attach the end to the end that has the glue on it. Hold for a second to let it set. Make sure that you are wrapping the ribbon tight enough to stay up on the vase.

    11

Place the mirror in the center of your table. Place your centerpiece in the direct center of the mirror. Place the votive candles into their holders and space them equal distance around the vase, on the mirror.

    12

Take one to three types of your flowers and place them in the vase.

    13

Cut the thick ribbon so that it will hang about 12 inches off of each end of your banquet table or tables. When you cut the ribbon cut it at an angle on each side so that it forms a point on each end.

    14

Place the ribbon running along the outside of each banquet table about an inch from the edge. The food will be placed in the middle.

    15

Sprinkle you flower petals along the length of the ribbon on your banquet table.

How to Transform a Dresser Into a Baby Changing Table

With all the new things that expectant parents have to buy when a baby is coming, any way to save is immensely helpful. While it's not safe to use baby beds from ten years ago, a changing table is a perfectly acceptable thing to reuse. Even a dresser can easily be transformed into a changing table, saving money and customizing baby's new room. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Start with a dresser that is approximately 38 inches in height and has a flat surface large enough to accommodate both a changing pad and safety railings.

    2

Check the suitability of the dresser before you make it a changing table. Remove any loose pieces, tighten all the screws and make sure the dresser is solid and sturdy. If the dresser is painted, purchase a lead paint test kit and test it prior to bringing it into your home. Lead paint test kits are available at any home improvement center and are very easy to use.

    3

Place the changing pad into place and draw a pencil line around it. This will be the guide you use to secure the safety railing in place. A safety rail must fit snugly around the changing pad as a safety precaution.

    4

Remove the drawers. Screw the crown molding or 1 x 4's into the top of the dresser from underneath, securing it around the perimeter you traced out in Step 3. Or, if you prefer, attach the safety rail to the outside edges of the dresser and use a thick towel when changing the baby rather, than a changing pad.

    5

Fill the top drawers of the dresser changing table with diapers, baby wipes, diaper rash ointment and extra clothing. Keep them at hand as you'll need them often.

Homemade Changing Table

Changing tables are a necessary piece of furniture for families with infants. Making a homemade changing table ensures you get exactly what you want. The aspects leading to a good decision include wood choice and color as well as height and depth. Of course, the pad on which the baby has to spend her time on while she is being changed is also part of the decision-making process. Does this Spark an idea?

Legs, Frame and Table Top

Changing a baby should not be a strain on the human body, and since the objective is to make a homemade changing table, the height is the first issue to address. People range as much as two feet in height, which makes it seem illogical that changing tables would come in one-size fits all.

Measure up from the floor to just above your belt line and cut four spindle legs to that length. Use 1-by-6-inch lumber to build the frame for the homemade changing table. Secure the frame together with 1-inch drywall screws.

The legs should be installed exactly two inches inside the 1-by-6 frame in each corner. This is followed by the tabletop, which fits inside the frame and rests on the top of the legs; -inch plywood will do nicely. Place it inside the frame and let it rest on the tops of the legs. Secure it to the tops of the legs with drywall screws and through the frame with 3d finish nails.

Make sure that the pad you make to fit inside the frame is snug against the inside of the frame. The changing table is now finished at this point, but it doesn't have to be complete. You can either purchase a small nightstand with drawers to store diapers and the other items needed to go with your homemade changing table.

Be sure to have plenty of ventilation during the finishing of the changing table, whether it be stained or painted. If you're going to use paint, use a latex water based paint to prevent possible harm coming to the child who may scratch some off with his fingers and chew on it as babies are prone to do.

How to Arrange a Table in a Banquet Hall

How to Arrange a Table in a Banquet Hall

Arrange a beautiful banquet table with ease. Provide a comfortable and elegant atmosphere for your guests. Folding tables and folding chairs are convenient and will help you save money and stay within your budget. Consider the location of the tables in the room and the accessories that will decorate each table. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Clean the banquet room and all of the floor surface before arranging the tables. A beautiful table will not shine in a room that has not been properly cleaned.

    2

Place the tables where you want them. Do not put a table too close to the live entertainment, as it is rude to guests to have a loud sound system nearby.

    3

Drape white table cloths over the tables. Place flowers in small vases at the center of the tables. Put candles next to the flowers, but be careful to place them far enough away so as not to burn the flower petals.

    4

One idea is to arrange the seats on one side of the table only. Because there will be other tables in the banquet room, you must consider the view your guests will have. For example, all of the tables could form a square or rectangular shape. In this case, you would want all the guests viewing the inside of the shape.

    5

Place plates in front of each seat and put a cloth napkin to the right of each plate. Neatly place the silverware on top of each cloth napkin. Be consistent and make each presentation look as identical as possible.

How to Make a Banquet Table Cover Pattern

How to Make a Banquet Table Cover Pattern

Learning how to make a banquet table cover pattern is the vital first step to beginning your table cloth or pad cover shopping excursion. Although the vast majority of uniformly sized tables do not have to go through this step, the occasionally odd sized table with measurements that simply do not seem to fit into any category offered by linen suppliers makes this step necessary. Making a banquet table cover pattern is really very easy; just take your time and follow the instructions. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Decide which banquet table you will use for the occasion. Remove any items which are currently on the surface, and take off any table cover or cloth you may have placed on it. If your table has a pad, be sure to remove this as well.

    2

Locate the split in your table. Most larger tables have a split with hinges, to allow the table to be folded in half for easier transport or storage. Other tables have a split where additional planks may be inserted to elongate the available surface.

    3

Cut off a piece of butcher paper that is large enough to cover the table surface up to the split. If there is no split in your table, cut a piece of butcher paper that is large enough to cover the entire table.

    4

Rip off some pieces of painters tape and use each to attach the butcher paper to the table surface. Fold the butcher paper under the table surface so you can affix with tape.

    5

Use a crayon to trace the table top outline. You should be able to see and feel it through the butcher paper. If you have a table with a split in the middle, you can simply double the size of the surface when you shop for the linen. A solid table without a split should be properly measured in order to allow you to make a banquet table cover pattern to the specific dimensions of the table.

    6

Use the dimensions you measured to calculate the amount of fabric you will likely need. Also, calculate any overhang you want to have.

    7

Take the completed pattern or your calculations to a linen store near you and pick out the fabrics you want to use for the banquet table cover. Remember that the length of the cover and draping will have a huge impact on the size of the decorative print on the table cover.

How to Construct a Round Banquet Table for Weddings

Your wedding is nearing and you need a solution for banquet tables. One idea is to convert large cable spools into round tables that seat eight guests. Since utility companies use these in abundance, they may give them to you. By covering them with an easy-to-make tablecloth, you will inexpensively enhance your reception.

Instructions

    1

Gather the needed number of utility spools. Check with your local utility company and see if you can have several for free. Other sources could be Craigslist or classified ads.

    2

Sand off any rough edges and level the spool. Since the spools are used for industrial purposes, they will need to be thoroughly cleaned. The spools may also be uneven and could require minimal carpentry skills to make them into a suitable table.

Determine the size of your tablecloth by taking the following measurements: Drop plus diameter of the tabletop plus drop (again) plus 1 inch for hem allowance. If your cutting width is larger than the width of your fabric, double the width of your fabric by piecing. You will piece the fabric so there is a center panel and two side panels. Piece with right sides together and sew with a -inch seam. Press the seam allowance toward the outside edges.

    4

Fold the fabric in half, then fold again into quarters after you have pieced your fabric (if necessary). Match the seams and edges, pinning all the layers together.

    5

Pin your measuring tape to the center point and use it as a compass to mark the radius, which is half the cutting width. Use your marking chalk to draw a cutting line. Cut the fabric along this line.

    6

Turn under the raw edges inch twice to hem the fabric. Press and steam with an iron. Stitch down the hem with a -inch seam. Press and steam.

    7

Add centerpieces and chairs and you will have a lovely round table fit for a wedding reception.

Ideas for Creative Banquet Tables

Ideas for Creative Banquet Tables

Putting together a creative banquet table does not have to be complicated or expensive. You can draw your inspiration from the menu, your location, or even the season. By adhering to a few guidelines, you can make any table decoration successful.

Banquet Table Basics

    Layered Banquet Table

Start with the centerpiece, which will be the crown of your table and will provide colors and inspiration for the rest of your design. A centerpiece can be one item or a group of items. Make sure they fall above or below eye level so they do not obstruct conversation.

Linen can also be an inexpensive way to make a bold statement. Floor-length linen provides an elegant feel and colored overlays can add visual interest. Interesting napkin folds can also add appeal to your table.

Layer different shapes and colors on your table to give it a very rich, elaborate look. Layer floor-length linen with an overlay and a runner, or a charger plate with a dinner plate and a salad bowl.

Beach Table

    Seashell Placecard Holders

Start with white or blue linen to evoke the seashore theme. If you use white floor-length linen and a blue overlay you can accent with white napkins. Use sand and create a sandy area on your table that complements your table's shape. You can set sandblasted Manzanita branches in the sand to represent driftwood. Scatter seashells on the sand. For your centerpiece, clean out the inside of a large conch shell and fill it with water. Place the shell upright so the water doesn't spill; use it as a vase to hold fresh white blooms. Accent your centerpiece with small glass vases holding complementary white flowers. For added detail, fill the bottom of the small vases with the same shells you scattered around the table. For place settings, use white china and white serving dishes. Napkins can be tied with raffia to represent sea glass. Check a craft store for creative touches like seashell place card holders. For an evening event, place 10 to 15 tealight candles around the table for a warm glow.

Autumn Table

    Autumn Table

Autumn offers a variety of beautiful colors for a table. Dress your table in a warm ivory cloth with a rich copper overlay and ivory or rust colored napkins. Make a centerpiece with vases filled with fresh Autumn apples and pears. Or fill the vases with maple branches to add height and color. Accent your centerpiece with candlelight. Core miniature pumpkins or gourds and use them to hold tapered candles. Use clear dishes for your place settings, placing autumn leaves underneath each plate. You can also decorate each setting with a mini-pumpkin. If you cut a slit in the top of the pumpkin, it can also make a great place card holder. Roll your silverware in the napkin and secure it with raffia. You can accent each silverware roll-up with a piece of dried apple, a cinnamon stick or a small ear of Indian corn.

Theme

The most important aspect to keep in mind when decorating banquet tables is the overall theme of the event. For example, when creating tables for a wedding banquet, keep in mind the bride's choice of colors for the wedding. You would also want to use any specific themes the bride may have chosen for the event. If you are decorating the event in a specific season, you may also want to take that into consideration. Fall events can inspire beautiful tables in oranges, yellows, and reds. Winter events can inspire tables in blues and whites. Holidays may also determine event themes, especially Christmas. Another important thing to keep in mind is that you do not want to take the theme overboard. Use hints of color and accessories that keep an overall elegant feel to the banquet tables, while at the same time blending in with the rest of the event.

Height

Height is an important aspect when decorating banquet tables. Using accessories and decorations that have varying heights creates depth and interest to your decor. However, guests need to be able to see each other. If you want to achieve dramatic height, choose centerpieces that are thin at the sight level and then expand at the top and bottom. This will keep the view open while still creating drama. When in doubt, keep your centerpieces below eye level.

Creativity

It is important to keep the line between elegance and cliche without sacrificing creativity. Use interesting textures and volumes to create beautiful arrangements and centerpieces. Play off the dinnerware and servingware patterns and colors to attract your guests' eyes to the decor.

Function

No matter how many decorations you use for your tables, make sure that your guests and the serving staff can still operate around them. Is the food accessible? Is the seating comfortable? Does it feel crowded?

Safety

Candles and burners are essential pieces of banquet table decor. Candles provide a warm glow and elegance, and burners help maintain food at the proper temperature. They can create safety hazards. Do not place flammable decorations near open flames.

Hidden Storage

Using long table cloths on your serving tables can provide much needed hidden storage for extra napkins, plates, cups rolls, or even foods that do not need to be refrigerated or kept warm, for quick and easy access. Just slide any extra items underneath the serving table and let the long cloths hide them.

Folding Table Instructions

Folding tables provide a fast, temporary and convenient surface for serving food, making crafts or any other project or task that requires a flat, sturdy surface. If you are enlisted to help set up for a banquet, party or just a game of bridge, read on to learn how to unfold and take down a folding table. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Turn the table upside down and lay it flat on the ground.

    2

Look at the legs to see what type of table you have. Virtually all folding tables are built either with four extending legs or two posts fitted with two legs each.

    3

Open a four-leg table by raising each leg on its hinge from under the table surface and pulling outward until it locks into place.

    4

    Turn the table right-side up.

    5

Close a four-legged folding table for storage by turning the table on its edge and depressing the release button on each leg next to the hinge, then fold the leg back underneath the table surface.

    6

Set up a rectangular or large, circular two-post table by setting it upside down on the ground.

    7

Raise the posts upright until perpendicular with the underside of the table surface and lock them into place by sliding the metal bracket between the legs of each post until it locks in the center of the legs.

    8

Close the large folding table by raising the metal locking bracket from the hinge on each leg assembly and folding the posts back underneath the table surface.

Banquet Table Placement Guide

Banquet Table Placement Guide

Banquet tables and chairs provide seating for guests at dinners, business meetings, conferences, family reunions, graduation parties, community expositions, art fairs, and more. The arrangement of tables is important in ensuring that space is used to seat attendees comfortably and efficiently. A number of different styles bring different benefits to the overall hospitality of the event. Does this Spark an idea?

Determining Seating

Figuring out exactly how many people can comfortably sit at a table can be a difficult task. According to BanquetTables.pro, round, 30-inch tables seat two to three people; 36-inch tables seat four; 42-inch and 48-inch tables seat five; 54-inch tables seat six; 60-inch tables seat eight; and 72-inch tables seat 10. Rectangular 30-by-72-inch tables (standard 6-foot tables) can fit six people comfortably, while 30-by-96-inch tables (standard 8-foot tables) can accommodate eight.

Classroom Banquet Style

The classroom style is a good option for settings in which one or more speakers will address a small audience (fewer than 30 people). Arrange one rectangular table at the head of the room so that one of the long sides of the table is closest to the audience. Arrange the rest of the tables facing the same direction, but in two rows as students desks might sit in a classroom. Leave an aisle at least 6 feet wide for ease of audience movement and so that speakers can traverse the rows if they need to.

U-Shaped Banquet Style

This arrangement is ideal for a presentation setting, as it facilitates interaction between a speaker and an audience. It can also be used for a dinner setting while entertainment performs in the middle. Align two standard 8-foot tables in a row touching one another to form the bottom of the horseshoe. Place two more tables that extend from the left half of the left table and two more that extend from the right half of the right table. This setup will seat 29 people around the outside, but additional chairs can sit along the interior in a dinner setting.

Decorating Banquet Tables With Roses

Decorating Banquet Tables With Roses

Whether used to serve large spreads of food or to seat a big group of people, as a party host, you can dress up a banquet table through various rose displays and arrangements. Pick the color of roses to use based on the occasion, season and time of day. For instance, while pink or yellow roses satisfy an afternoon springtime tea party, an evening anniversary party calls for red roses. To save on money, simply cut roses from your own garden.

Containers

Place the roses in unusual holders like rustic tin containers and painted tin cans. Insert roses in kitchenware like mason jars, wine bottles, glass canisters and colorful pitchers. Depart from standard circular vases by putting the roses in a square-shaped vase. Fill the bottom of a glass vase with marbles and stones for an added bit of color.

Disassembled Roses

Scatter rose petals directly on the table, hugging the displays of food. Place bowls of potpourri, made primarily with rose petals, on both ends of the banquet table. For an added bit of presentation, put the potpourri in crystal bowls. String a garland of roses across the edge of the banquet table, or make your own shabby chic garland craft by inserting a host of roses throughout a line of rope.

Roses and Candles

Illuminate the banquet table using a mixture of roses and candles. For instance, place rose buds in a bowl floating alongside rose-shaped candles. Many florists offer rose arrangements outfitted with built-in candles. You can also decide to simply surround a bouquet of roses with candles in complementary colors.

Non-Floral Roses

In lieu of roses, use rose-shaped items to decorate the banquet table. Place long stem chocolate roses, dyed or wrapped in red foil to resemble the flowers, in a crystal vase. Scatter multiple platters across the table featuring a wide array of edible rose-shaped items, like cupcakes topped with colorful and oversized roses made of icing and various desserts made in rose-shaped baking pans such as mini-tarts, brownies and muffins. Paper or plastic roses found at most arts and crafts stores cater to guests with allergies.

Banquet Table Decorating

Banquets are a beautiful way to celebrate an event (e.g., the giving of an award) or to bring people together (e.g., a reunion). Usually, the venues for banquets are decorated, and because banquets involve food, the banquet tables receive a great deal of decorative attention. Approaching banquet decoration with a few simple guidelines in mind will help ensure the decorated tables look perfect. Does this Spark an idea?

Reason and Formality Level

Consider the reason for the banquet and the level of formality. Banquets can range from small parties for members of a particular committee to huge parties for entire graduating classes. For smaller, less formal venues, decorations can be more sparse, such as simply folding cloth napkins in elegant designs. The decorations should still convey the theme of the banquet, however. For instance, for a graduation banquet, the napkins could be in the school colors. For more formal venues, lean toward flowers, candles and reflective surfaces. These items are never out of style, can be personalized for the event (e.g., ten roses in vases for 10 years of service at a company) and give soft, multiplied light that is calming.

Guests

Take note of the number of guests. Although the decorations on banquet tables provide much in terms of atmosphere for the banquet, remember that the guests will be eating a meal at the table on which the decorations are placed. This means the more guests there are, the more sets of dinnerware necessary. The more place settings there are, the less room on the table there will be for the decorations. When the number of guests is large, use smaller decorations, such as a single vase of flowers, and do not crowd the place settings together to make room for whatever decorations you use. The decorations should not get in the way of the guests being able to eat the banquet dinner.

Season

Consider the season. The season can make a difference in what decorations are appropriate and available. For instance, if the banquet occurs in the spring, then there will be much more to work with in terms of flora. Similarly, if the banquet occurs near a holiday, such as Christmas, items such as holly or Christmas lights might be an option. The season also is important to consider due to the fact that it can affect the price of the decorations. Ordering lilac centerpieces in winter, for instance, is much more expensive than ordering them in the spring due to the fact that lilacs do not bloom in winter months.

Banquet Centerpeice Ideas

Banquet Centerpeice Ideas

A banquet is a time for gathering and conversing. It can also be used as an opportunity to showcase creativity from wall decorations all the way down to the table arrangements. When choosing a centerpiece for your banquet tables keep in mind the theme and the mood of the event. If your banquet will have a lot of tables, creating stunning yet affordable centerpieces is beneficial.

Floating Candles

Create a luminous centerpiece by using floating candles. Floating candles come in a variety of colors and shapes. Floral-shaped floating candles in colors that coordinate with the the event will help tie in the theme. Fill a large, clear oval bowl half way with water. Place the candles on top of the water. Light the candles before the banquet starts. Place the clear bowl on top of mirror tile to create a reflection.

Nature Vase

Use nature to inspire your centerpieces. Using items from outdoors creates an earthy mood and is generally free. Use a large, clear glass vase and fill it with things from outdoors such as stones, pine cones, or colorful leaves. Layering the items can make for an eye-catching centerpiece. To make a beach-inspired nature vase, fill a clear, glass vase about three-quarters full of sand and place a few seashells on top. Gently pour in water until the vase is almost full.

Potted Plants

Potted plants make easy and impressive centerpieces while also being eco-friendly. If you do not have a lot of time to put into the centerpieces then consider using small potted plants to decorate the banquet tables. Choose hardy plants like daisies or ivy. Use a ribbon that coordinates with the banquet to tie around the pots or cover the pots with wrapping paper.

Fruit

Beautifully arranged fruit in a bowl or vase can add a simple pop of color to your banquet tables. Place bright green or dark red apples in a glass fruit bowl and stick coordinating roses in the crevices. Oranges and cranberries piled in a high, glass rectangle vase makes a bold statement. If possible use fruits that will match the theme or colors of the banquet.

Banquet Party Table Ideas

When preparing for a banquet party table, there are a few factors to determine before you start your set up. First, think about what kind of party you are having. You may be setting a banquet table for a formal event or a casual event. This will determine what tone the accessories on the table should have. Also consider your budget. You may have money to rent all the banquet accessories you will need, or you may have to creatively use everyday items. Does this Spark an idea?

Determine the Theme

Consider the tone of your event. You may be having an elegant affair that requires pressed linens, rented china and candelabras. Perhaps your event is more casual and family oriented. If your event is more down to earth, select more humble table coverings and accessories.

Formal Banquet Table Decor

Choose elegant table linens to achieve a more formal table. Select refined linens like brocade, woven silk or fine pressed Irish linen. When choosing a color scheme, consider a black and white color combination with red and gold accents. A black tablecloth with red napkins and white plates with gold chargers projects an air of formality.
Rent fine silverware and china to reflect the elegant tone of your banquet. Choose buffet ware, vases or servers to coordinate with your theme. You can select either a coordinating elaborate pattern on your china or a more simple but refined silver- or gold-striped china pattern.

Floral Decorations for a Formal Banquet Table

Select floral centerpieces to reflect the tone of a formal banquet table. Flowers like long-stem roses and lilies are most commonly used for more upscale events. Their style, color and scent all suggest an opulent affair.
Make sure the vessels the floral arrangements are in reflect the atmosphere you want to create. Silver or simple ceramic vases would be perfect for this purpose. Height will also lend an air of sophistication in a floral arrangement. Very tall floral arrangements tend to look more formal than short bunches of flowers.

Casual Banquet Table

Purchase either disposable or inexpensive cloth linens to use as tablecloths for a casual event. Many dollar stores carry inexpensive tablecloths in their inventories. If you can't find the right size covering, you can always layer two tablecloths together. If you find a bargain on a large tablecloth that is too big for your table, you can always cut it down to fit and sew or glue the edges to look finished.
Instead of renting silverware for a casual banquet table, purchase plastic ware at a bulk wholesale club to save money. There are even plastic ware brands that are colored to mimic real silverware.

Floral Decorations for a Casual Banquet Table

Purchase small vases, baskets or other containers at dollar stores or discount stores. Creative containers like beach buckets or mason jars can be charming and inexpensive. Select flowers like daisies or wildflowers for a more down-to-earth atmosphere. Use seashells, pine cones and cinnamon sticks as accents in your floral arrangements.
Purchase floating candles and put them in clear vases filled with water and scatter those casually around the table. You can also add a touch of food coloring to the water to coordinate with your banquet-table color scheme.

How to Do a Food Display for a Banquet

How to Do a Food Display for a Banquet

Creating a banquet food display that looks professional and tempting involves planning and preparation. Though food that tastes good is imperative, the appearance of the banquet table sets the tone for a party and can elevate standard food fare to gourmet heights. Skilled caterers rely on a number of guidelines that will result in stunning presentations at your next banquet. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Choose a table that is large enough to accommodate all of the food platters, with adequate room for chafing dishes or warming plates as well. Multiple tables may be necessary if you are serving food for a large banquet. Folding tables are usually the best choice, but a dining room table is appropriate if the banquet is small.

    2

Find linens that fit the banquet table and match the rest of the decor. Before shopping, measure the table to ensure a correct fit. Vinyl, plastic or polyester materials offer easy clean up and affordability. Cotton is more appropriate for formal banquets. If the event has a theme, like a sports banquet, choose a fabric that includes this theme. Otherwise, buy a solid color or print that relates to the rest of the decor. Sewing is not necessary for pre-made tablecloths, and hemming tape will quickly add a finished look to fabric with a rough edge.

    3

Decide which platters you will use to plate the food. Choose ones that will hold large amounts, like catering platters or plates with more than one tier. Use baskets for foods that do not require heat. Keep meat dishes and hot items in chafing dishes or warming trays. Lids are very helpful for keeping foods warm and to keep them from drying out.

    4

Create or purchase a centerpiece for the banquet table. Although a flower arrangement is appropriate for a number of different special events, another practical solution is an edible arrangement. Make these by skewering pieces of cubed fruit or vegetables and arranging them in a vase. Other options include candles, ice sculptures or an item related to the theme of the banquet.

    5

Plate the food. Use beds of decorative lettuce or herbs underneath food items to create a professional looking food display. Consider making two of each dish if the banquet is large. Place these dishes at opposite ends of the table to help the crowd move quickly.

    6

Place the platters on the table. Place wood blocks or stacked books underneath the tablecloth to create different heights. Organize the table, placing similar dishes next to each other. For example, a cracker or bread platter should have a cheese platter next to it.

Do-It-Yourself Banquet Hall Table Decorating Ideas

Do-It-Yourself Banquet Hall Table Decorating Ideas

Although banquet halls make ideal gathering spaces for large parties and wedding receptions, decorating them can be expensive. One way to solve this problem is to put together your own decorations. Because banquet halls do not always have much character of their own, think about making decorations that are bold and will help fill the space. The table decorations should feature bright colors, striking patterns and height to fill the vertical space.

Instructions

    1

Spread a white, ivory or other light-colored linen tablecloth over each table. These will serve as the foundation for the rest of the decorations.

    2

Arrange a table runner down the center of the table. The design used depends on the look you are trying to achieve, but choose a runner featuring color, texture or an interesting pattern. One easy option is to create your own runner by cutting two long pieces of wide ribbon and setting them up along the center of the table with about a foot of space between them.

    3

Place at least five curly willow branches in a pot or vase to make each centerpiece. Pour plaster of Paris into the pot to hold the branches in place. If the vase is tall and heavy, it should be able to hold a well-balanced centerpiece on its own.

    4

Hot-glue at least one silk flower to each willow branch. Vary their heights and positions in the arrangement to create a mostly balanced look.

    5

Place at least one centerpiece on each table. Long banquet tables might need two centerpieces, such as one at each end of the table.

    6

Place a glass bowl on either side of each centerpiece. Fill the bowls with water and put at least two floating candles in each bowl. Choose candles that match your color scheme and desired look. Round white candles are simple choices, whereas red flower-shaped candles bring more visual interest.

    7

Arrange your chosen place settings at the tables. Each diner should be allotted at least 24 inches of space to avoid overcrowding. Consider adding color to the table by placing a colored water goblet at each place setting.

    8

Sprinkle flower petals, confetti or other small items along the center of the table to fill in any open space.

How to Use Banquet Table Skirts

How to Use Banquet Table Skirts

Banquet table skirts allow you to transform tables that do not match in shape, size or style into a coherent whole. They hide worn, torn, rusty or broken bases and dented table legs from view. Once the party is over, many banquet table skirts are thrown in the trash or wadded into a box with a "lick and promise" wipe-down. Instead, they can become a set of cafe curtains, a substitute for an under-sink cabinet or a tiered room divider. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Cafe Curtains

    1
The uprights at the outer right and outer left of the frame are the stiles.
The uprights at the outer right and outer left of the frame are the stiles.

Measure your window beginning at the midpoint of the right stile and ending at the midpoint of the left stile, which is the upright portion of the window frame.

    2

Cut your table skirt into two pieces with a length of half your window width plus one. Trim the right and left sides of both table skirt pieces with a straightedge and a sharpened pair of sewing shears.

    3

Cut 4-inch wide muslin to your window measurement from step 1. Fold the muslin in half lengthwise. Machine-stitch along the open edge of the muslin, leaving a 1/2-inch seam allowance.

    4

Bend the last 1/2-inch of the end of a yard-long piece of 1/4-inch steel rod stock into a hook, using vise grips or other pliers of your choice.

    5

Push the rod through the muslin tube you made in previous steps. Hook the outside edge of the tube, and begin pulling the muslin tube inside itself. Once the entire tube has been pulled inside out, you have made a casing for your curtains.

    6

Cut the casing into two equal-length pieces. Pin a casing along the top edge of each table skirt piece, even with the point where the shirred top edge ends and the folds of the table skirt begin. Stitch the casing to the table skirt.

    7

Push your curtain rod into the casing from the left side to the right. Hang rods using manufacturer-supplied hardware. If you have archer or other long window styles, cut the skirt folds from a second table skirt, leaving you with just the shirred top to use as a valance. Repeat all steps to make a casing for your valance.

Measure your sink from the right side where it meets your bathroom wall to the left side. Measure from the top edge of the side of the sink to the floor.

    9

Cut your table skirt to the measurements from step 1.

    10
You can cut plastic hook and loop tape into squares if you can't find circles.
You can cut plastic hook and loop tape into squares if you can't find circles.

Beginning where your sink meets your bathroom wall, glue a plastic hook and loop circle every two inches from the left side of your sink to the right, using 5-minute epoxy.

    11

Glue a matching circle every two inches along the seam of your table skirt where the shirred top ends and the skirt folds begin.

    12

Press each hook and loop circle on the sink to a corresponding circle on the skirt. By using hook and loop circles, the skirt is easy to remove for cleaning. Machine wash on the gentle cycle using warm water and a tsp. of dish liquid. Dry on a clothesline or lay flat on a table.

Tiered Room Dividers

    13

Cut table skirts to the width of the shower curtain liners. It usually takes at least three tiers on each side to completely cover each liner.

    14

Lay the curtain liner flat on the floor. Match the bottom edge of the first piece of table skirt with the bottom edge of the shower curtain liner. Use clothespins every two inches along the bottom to clamp it in place.

    15

Apply instant adhesive across the width of the shower curtain liner, one-inch below the top edge of the first banquet table skirt tier. Use firm pressure to ensure that the adhesive holds.

    16

Find the midpoint between the top edge of the table skirt tier you just finished gluing and the top edge of the shower curtain liner. Mark that point on the right and left sides of the liner. Draw a line between the two points.

    17

Apply instant adhesive along that line, and glue the middle tier in place.

    18

Apply instant adhesive along the top edge of the shower curtain liner. Use clamp-style clothespins every two inches to hold the final table skirt tier to the shower curtain's top edge until the adhesive dries.

    19

Repeat steps 1 to 6 to cover the other side of the shower curtain with table skirt tiers.

    20

Use a stud finder to decide where to place your wall anchors on each side of the room. Ron Hazelton recommends calibrating the stud finder. "First, you hold the sensor up to the wall...so it can measure how thick the wall is." You will see a light or hear a sound when the wall thickness changes.

    21

Drill holes into the wall, and use a rubber mallet to tap the wall anchors into place. Screw an eye hook into each wall anchor.

    22

Stretch picture wire from eye bolt to eye bolt and twist into place. Hang your table skirt tiered room divider from the wire using shower curtain hooks.
